🔩 What Is Gland Rope / Gland Packing Rope?
Gland ropes (also called gland packing ropes) are braided sealing ropes used to form a tight seal around valve stems, pump shafts, agitators, and other rotating or reciprocating equipment to prevent fluid leakage in mechanical glands and stuffing boxes. These ropes are flexible, compressible, and designed to withstand pressure, temperature, and chemical exposure.
📍 Key Materials & Types
PTFE (ePTFE) Universal Rope: Made from pure expanded PTFE, offering very low friction, excellent chemical resistance, and smooth operation — ideal for valves and flange sealing up to ~260 °C and 20 MPa.
PTFE Graphite Packing Ropes: PTFE reinforced with graphite for improved lubrication, heat dissipation, and durability in high-performance sealing.
Refractory Fibre Rope (Style 7916): High-temperature, steel-reinforced rope for extreme environments such as furnace fuel pipes or steam applications.
⚙️ Applications
Used in sealing around pump shafts, valve stems, mixers, agitators, and flanged connections in industries like oil & gas, petrochemical, power, water treatment, and chemical processing.
📊 Key Performance Benefits
Leak-proof sealing in dynamic and static applications
High temperature and pressure resistance
Chemical inertness and low friction
Easy installation and long service life
